Bio
Robin opened Ultra Maroon Design in 1986 as a way to avoid full-time employment. Who knew that 20ish years later, she would still be making a living...err... scratching out an existence with no health insurance!
In the '80's, fabulous graphic design and art direction was done by hand, not on fancy-schmancy computers. Robin, being somewhat cranky about how long it took to sketch out an idea, dreamed of the day she could find someone to boss around to do the dirty work.
At last...the '90's arrived! With the new decade emerged that magical technology...computers! It was love at first byte! (sorry!)
Within a few years, Robin started up a chat group for Artists and Engineers on, what was then, a startup: America Online. Her chat; The Secret SIG, met every week for 5 years. During that time she made lots of friends at Adobe, Macromedia, WIRED Magazine, Bare Bones Software, NBC, Kai's Power Tools, Xaos Tools, Fractal Design and others. Through those new friendships, Robin became a beta test site and shortly thereafter co-author two books on Adobe Illustrator: "The Illustrator 7 and 8 WOW" books, respectively.
“Working on your own, you find the need to wear many hats. If a client needs something, you want to be able to provide that service. If I can't do the job, I usually know someone who can; so my clients are never let down."
Working under this mantra, Robin has tackled a wide range of tasks: Art Direction, Graphic Design, Illustration, Branding, Project Management, Production, Production Management, Web Design, Technical Writing, Copywriting, Strategic Planning, Account Management, Photography, Food Styling, Media Buying, Package Design, Software Training, Standards & Protocol Creation.
Robin's worked in many industries from Computer Software to Promotions, Advertising, Packaging, Financial, Kid's/Consumer, Food and Spirits, both nationally and internationally. Her favorite aspect of what she does is to help small companies grow. She loves working within a team, but is a self-starter, too, and often can "hit the ground running."
Today, Ultra Maroon Design's worldwide headquarters is located in the rolling hills of Newtown, Connecticut. With a complete suite of hardware and software, Robin can handle most design and production challenges.
